Sandra started working for Mrs Gardiner at Gardiners’ Hair Salon in 1972, as a stylist. Very quickly, Mrs Gardiner saw that Sandra had creativity and promising management skills along with an exceptional work ethic, and made the decision to offer Sandra the opportunity of buying the salon. At the salon’s busiest time of the year, the week before Christmas in 1978, following the retirement of Mrs Gardiner, Sandra became the new owner of Tops Hair Salon, managing a team of 8 stylists as well as running her own full-time column of clients. An incredibly loyal former employee, Sandra continued to cut Mrs Gardiner’s hair until 2001.
Throughout her hairdressing career, Sandra has seen hairstyles and staff members come, go and some come back again and has attended a vast number of cutting, styling, colouring and management courses across the UK.
Sandra is still very much involved with the salon and always has great enthusiasm for new ideas and change which has kept her in business for so long. Although no longer hairdressing, Sandra is often seen on the salon floor, shampooing, talking to clients, ensuring the salon is clean and tidy and, most importantly, assisting her daughters Alexandra and Victoria with her vast amount of knowledge and experience.
